The canon I wanted to promote is the rarely known in the West manga Kaze to Ki no Uta by Keiko Takemiya. One of the earliest BL mangas, this complex and psychologically deep story was crucial in the development of the genre. From the perspective of this exchange, the most important part is probably one of the co-leads being a Roma boy whose heritage is important to the plot, and Roma community he grew in is portrayed in later chapters. I cannot say how realistic the portrayal is, as I am only familiar with the traditions of Polska Roma, but in general the manga is well researched, so I hope the French Roma characters are too. All in all, I think Serge Battour is among the very best Roma characters written by non-Roma writers.
